Sketch Card / ATC Introduction

What are sketch cards? You might have heard them called ATCs or Artist Trading Cards. They are around the size of baseball cards at 2 1⁄2 by 3 1⁄2 inches (64 mm × 89 mm).

I use Strathmore Artist Trading Cards. But artists use any paper to create them. They just have to be that exact size.

They’re fun to create because you can do so much with them:

Here’s some I created for my webcomic, In Love & Justice.

I used Copic Multiliners for inks, Copic Sketch Markers for colors and Prismacolor Color Pencils for more detailed coloring.

So what do you with them? You can keep them in plastic sleeves or frame them in your home. You can trade with with a fellow artist friend. There are many swap sites online where you can find other artists to swap with. Artists also like to offer them at conventions and create templates to further personalize them. Here’s a great tutorial on creating your own templates.
